Owl Always Love You

I have been wearing sweaters and skirts so much lately, and honestly I wish I could wear them every single day in the fall. The combinations are so cute while still being comfortable! Sweaters and skirts also remind me so much of the 40's and 50's! I will someday have to attempt the pencil skirt and sweater look!

I love everything about this outfit! It is my favorite things- mint, owls, pink, and bows; and it has added just a little bit of happiness in an otherwise stressful life right now! It's crazy that an outfit can make me calm down and a little bit more positive, but it did!

Free Spirit

Well hello there! Sorry for my extended absence. This past week I have been off and on sick, and have also had a lot of home work. I love this oversized coral dress. It makes me think so much of the beach, and somewhat of hippies (and even though hippy styling isn't usually my thing with this dress I felt it worked). I actually got this dress the day before I wore it!

My Aunty Nancy went through a whole bunch of her clothes, and me and my cousins when through them together, and we all took a little bit of what we wanted.

I've Got Spirit- Yes I Do!

I've got spirit! How about you! I wore this lovely outfit on Spirit Day a few weeks ago, and I was really happy with how 50's the look turned out to be while still staying with our school colors.

This red petticoat is just wonderful! I love it so much, and it is perfect for our school colors. I feel like because it is my senior year I have been trying to really just have fun, and get involved and dressing up for spirit day is just a part of that!

Also, I'm rather proud of myself, because being the clutz I am I generally fall/trip/stumble a lot, and that usually ends up with ripped tights, scuffed shoes, and scraped hands. Well, on the day I wore this I was holding my flute and we were outside on the road, and I biffed it. I mean really, face plant, knee bang, head over heals right onto the pavement. Well... I didn't rip my tights, scuff my shoes, hurt my flute, or even flash all of those standing behind me! All that happened was that I cut my elbow!

Teacher Dear

Lately I've been loving the 1940's school girl look, and I feel that this almost ties right in. The plaid skirt and blouse with the peter pan collar instantly made me think of what a school teacher would have worn in the past.

Here is something that has been on my mind a lot recently.... the beauty and immense power of words. How can something with such a great ability to build up and strengthen also tear someone down and hurt them so badly. It is so strange. What someone says almost instantly has the ability to change everything.

Lately a really close friend of mine has said some really cruel and hurtful things. I know it's not the first time that I've talked about it on here, because I want my blog to we how I am really feeling, and how I am working out those feelings. It hurt. Knowing that someone that I trusted could say those awful things about me, and even worse, thought those things about me just hurt. I didn't know what to do. She said things that I know aren't true, and aren't me, but they still made me doubt myself. My self confidence and happiness really took a toll with some of the things that were said.

She told me that she was telling me those cruel things because she wanted me to be a better friend, and wanted our friendship to be able to last, yet when she sees me at school she ignores me or just walks away. Obviously those things weren't said so that I would 'get better' they were just said out of anger to hurt me. I've tried to be kind and forgiving, but some of those words just stick to my mind. 'Gossip' 'Liar' 'Snob' the list goes on and on and on.

I cannot let words like that get to me when I know that they aren't true, but it is still hard. It's hard to trust knowing that more  harsh words like that could happen any moment. Have any of you gone through anything like this? How did you forgive and get over it??

I love this book pin, and if you have any ideas of what to put in it let me know!

Mod

Hello Dears! I am currently out of town, But couldn't help writing a little post just to let you know that I haven't disappeared off of the face of the earth. Yesterday I took some of my senior pictures (which I am sooo excited to share with you!) then... Our car battery died. So hopefully we will get all of our car problems solved soon!

I love this top, especially because of the darling peter pan collar, and it looks so retro to me even though it is not vintage. I wore this outfit a few weeks ago for my friends 'On Thursday we wear black and white'.

Bow: Forever 21
Top: Thrifted

Hopefully you all have a wonderful day, and enjoy the rest of General Conference!

Sweaters and Collars

Last week was homecoming for our school (unfortunately we don't actually have a homecoming formal dance, so that's a bummer) and for the whole week we have 'dress up days'. This year they were... well... pretty lame. Haha. On Monday the girls were supposed to wear pink and the boys blue, Tuesday was dress to impress or be a mess, Wednesday was college day, Thursday was Cowboy day (and because I am from a relatively small town that is how about a quarter of the school dresses everyday anyways) and Friday was just plane Spirit Day.

Even though the days weren't too fun and fancy, I still dressed up for everyday, and had fun with it. This is what I wore for the College Day. Now, I'm not really sure where I want to go to college- this is just one of my Daddy's old sweaters from college that I have taken over and I thought it would be cute to wear.

Hey- If you know any schools that offer fantastic programs in Education for the Deaf and Blind (using ASL), and fashion design- let me know!

Outfit Details:
White Ball Earings: Vintage
Ring: Mom and Dad
Collared Shirt: Vintage
Sweat shirt: Vintage-ish (it is like 18/19 years old, so I think it must count!)
Jeans: Rue 21
Boots: Birthday present from my Grandma

I love how even something as casual as a sweat shirt can be dressed up and made cute and feminine! I think that adding this lacy collar, the ring, and the red lipstick went a long way in transforming this old sweater into something really cute looking!

I'm still waiting to know my answer for Sadies- and because there is no school on Thursday and Friday, and I will be leaving town for a little bit with the Momma to take senior pics I won't even be able to know my answer until next week! EEK!

I Feel So Blue Thinking About You

This hat is simply gorgeous! I found it at a thrift store and it was only $.50. For that price I couldn't go wrong.

This blog post is basically how I am feeling right now. Thinking about one person makes me so sad, because right now I feel so hurt. I'm trying to forgive and forget, but the process is hard, especially when the other person won't even talk to you or acknowledge you in any way.

Moving on to way, way, WAY happier things, I asked a boy to Sadie's ( our high school's girls choice dance)  and it all ended up being so cute and fun! I wanted to ask in a cute and fun way that was completely me, and I ended up doing it like this. In 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th period I sent him a little treat from the office, but he didn't actually know that it was me doing it. The first was a lolli pop that said "Will". The second was some fizz soda candies that said "You". The third was another Lolli pop that said "Go", the fourth was a pack of tootsipops that said "To", the fifth was a old fashioned soda pop that was cherry lime flavored and said "Sadies", and the last was an old fashioned soda pop bottle that was filled with pretzel M&M's and said "With...".

Then, last period my friends Sydney, Kaylee, and Leslie went into English and sang lolli pop to him dressed up like girls from the fifties! At the end of the song we flipped the lollipops around and they spelled my name. It ended up being so cute and so many people told me that we sounded great! :) He totally got into it to, and was saying things like "I'm her lolli pop" and "Heck Yeah!"

I just really hope that he replies in a cute way!

Second Star to the Right, and Straight on Till Morning

I love how sweet and innocent this outfit turned out to be! It reminds me of a mixture of Wendy and Peter Pan! When I was little I used to love to watch Peter Pan because I adored Tinker Bell! I also had Tink's stubborn personality!

Sometimes I just wish that things were as simple as they were when I was little! There was no drama back then, and all of my friends were my friends all of the time! There was never any question in my mind about who was my friend and how they really felt.

Now thing are just harder than they used to be. Its hard to be told by someone that they think you are a snobby, lying gossip especially when you feel as if you haven't done anything wrong. Names really hurt people, and I feel like so many times people say cruel things without really meaning to. I know that I do, and I'm really trying to work on it. I'm also trying to be more understanding, and ultimately, forgiving.

Words from people I love pierce me deeply. I don't usually care about people's opinions, but when it is someone I care about everything changes. We need more kindness in this world, more forgiveness, and more selfless, Christlike, acts.

Lets Go To The Show

I love all things that have to do with vintage, and when I saw this hat I absolutely fell in love! It was actually at an estate sale with a few other hats that I couldn't resist. I ended up getting 5 hats for $18, and 4 pairs of gloves for only $4. I was so happy that I was able to get my hats at those amazing prices! It was near the end of the estate sale, and they were getting ready to close, but two of the hats were marked $12 and I honestly didn't think I was going to get a very good deal on the lot of them. I love old hats, and the elegance and care that they give a look (they are one of those things that I wish would come back soo badly!)

When I got this hat and these gloves I couldn't resist thinking to myself- What is the story of the woman who originally owned these? Who was she? What did she love, what would she wear them with?

One thing that I find so interesting is when I wear my hats and gloves to church the reactions from different generations are so drastically different!

The elderly love what I wear, and are constantly commenting on how that is what  should be worn still. As they say things like this I can't help but wish that I was able to be there at that part in the past too!

The kids my age always ask where I get 'costumes' like these, or if the veil on my hat makes it hard to see (the answer to that is no because the netting is so fine, but sometimes my eyelashes will get caught in it because they are rather long).

It's just interesting to me that hats and gloves- true elegance really- was lost in the past.

Sugar and Spice

Warm hues are my Mom's favorite colors on me. She says she loves the way that they make my hair and eyes look. I tend to gravitate more to light pastel colors, or the basic black and white, so when I do wear something like this I do love how it changes things up a little bit. I also like how fallish this outfit looks! Perfect for the changing season.

I love this necklace so much! It is just the cutest! I am a sucker for novelty accessories, and this necklace was no exception. I love the cute little swirl edge to the cake, and the vanilla center. I found this treasure at a thrift store for only $1 because there was only one earring to match it. I was fine with it though, and someday plan on turning the earring to a ring.

Muffin Top

Well hello there! Here I am again displaying my sweater obsession. I absolutely love this cupcake sweater. I found it last year on a Target sales rack for only $6, and almost cried because I loved it so much, but it was a size small. Just as I was about to put it back on the rack I decided to try it on anyway... and it fit perfectly!

It really made me think. Clothing sizes aren't really defining. They aren't who you are. They aren't the size that you really are they are just a letter that you are told is what you can or cannot wear.. They are  a recommendation made by someone else deciding what they think that your certain body type should look wearing what they produced. If they think it should look oversized or baggy that is what they will label it to be. If they want it to look skin tight that is what they make the clothing like. Sizes aren't true. Not all size small shirts are for someone with a 30 inch bust, and not all large shirts are made to fit someone with a 38 inch bust. All sizing is relative.

On the day that I wore this outfit I also found out that there is something going on with my right knee. I wore this darling pair of shoes to school (packing a pair of flats with me of course because I am a klutz and you never know what can happen...), and while I was walking around before school started I felt a sharp pain in my knee, and it felt as if my knee wouldn't support any weight.

I took of my heels and put on the flats I packed and immediately called my mom because I know that my Dad has a history of knee problems. It turns out that I have water on the knee caused from too much walking around (marching band). It is gross because there are squishy parts on my knee... My Dad gets water on the knee a lot, so this didn't come a s a surprise to me, but I did learn that my Mom gets sliding knee caps. Ugh. So if it wasn't one it would be the other!
